Senator Amy Klobuchar makes a stop at MSU Mankato today to talk about the hot button issue of student loan debt.
If Congress does nothing to stop it, the interest rate of Stafford student loans will double from 3.4 percent to 6.8.
More than 200,00 students around Minnesota use the Stafford Loan program.
Klobuchar came to MSU to get a personal side of the issue to take back to Washington.
Senator Amy Klobuchar says, "I'm here to talk to students at MSU about why they think it's important, so I can bring their stories back to Washington. And actually use their speeches and examples on the Senate floor. Because sometimes it makes it a lot easier instead of using just numbers all the time, to talk about actual students."
According to the Project on Student Debt, Minnesota ranks fourth in the nation for student loan debt.
On average, a Minnesota student graduates from college with more than $29,000 in loan debt.
