The Saint Peter girls' soccer team is heading to the state tournament for the 3rd straight year.
News 12 Sports Erick Lind says it's no wonder why.
When the section tournament comes around, keeper Maria Siebels (SEE–BULLS) steps up, and she's our KEYC Scheels All–Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
Maria Siebels may not have grown up being a goalie, but don't tell that to opponents in section 2–A over the past three seasons.
The Saint Peter senior keeper is 11–0 in the playoffs helping the Saints to a record three straight section titles.
The latest coming last Thursday when she held Mankato West to just one goal in Saint Peter's 2–1 section championship win.
Siebels has only given up five total goals during the section tournament over the past three years.
An impressive feat, but she says she has to as the Saints last line of defense.
Siebels goal for this year's trip to state is to get through the first round and reach the Metrodome.
To do so, the Saints will have to beat top seeded Benilde Saint Margaret's, but with Siebels between the pipes one last time, she gives Saint Peter the best chance to accomplish the feat.
That's why she's our KEYC Scheels All–Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
