Three bars in southern Minnesota are burglarized early this morning, and authorities believe they are related.
A string of attempted burglaries left a rash of broken doors and cut wires throughout several southern Minnesota establishments.
Capt. Rich Murry with the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office says, "We believe that they are connected at this point. We are following up on several leads that would lead us to believe the same people are involved. I don't want to provide a whole lot of information due to the fact that it's still under investigation, but we do believe they are connected."
At 4:14, the alarm at D Bar in Vernon Center went off, though the group was unable to gain access to the building, and fled shortly thereafter, traveling to the Thunder Bar in Good Thunder. That burglary alarm was activated at 4:34. The group did enter, and were looking for charitable gambling money.
Then, at 5:29 AM, the third burglary alarm went off at the Muni in Mapleton - forcing open the doors, and rummaging around the pull tab area of the bar.
Capt. Murry says, "At his point, we don't know for sure the total amount taken - it appears that the charitable gambling funds were targeted."
But the potential thieves appear to have been foiled, making off only with cigarettes, unable to gain access to the cash.
Anyone with information which may aid in the investigation is asked to call the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Department at 507-304-4807.
