In the Sandy recovery....Help is pouring in from across the country... including here in Mankato...
An Additional Southern Minnesota American Red Cross Volunteer is heading to the East Coast.
North Mankato resident Nancy Achterhoff (acter-hoff) is leaving tomorrow to work in disaster mental health to provide crisis intervention and mental health screening.
So far 38 people from Minnesota have joined relief efforts, 15 of them are from Southern Minnesota.
Red Cross Volunteer, Nancy Achterhoff says, "Especially when people are in a disaster situation and they are emotionally taxed,
I hope those that go out can make it easier for them."
Red Cross Emergency Services Manager, Rachel Kruger says, "Potential volunteers should contact their local Red Cross and talk to whoever they need to fill out an application and let us know what their specialties are and find out where they need to go and we'll set up training.
To donate you can call 1-800-Red-Cross or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
