The Mankato West football team has played at Chanhassen the last two years, but that was for the state quarterfinal.
Friday the Scarlets were back at the field taking on the Storm for the Section 2-5A championship, for the right to advance to the state tournament for the fifth straight year.
It was a defensive battle in the first half with it scoreless at the break. The 2nd half saw plenty of scores and the Scarlets had to come back with a rushing touchdown from Ryan Schlichte to tie it at 21 and send it to overtime. Mankato West would start with the ball in the first O-T and score on the first play from Schlichte to Will Claussen to go up 28-21. The Scarlets' defense would hold the Storm out of the endzone and take the section championship. Mankato West will open the state tournament against Big 9 rival Owatonna after the Huskies beat Rochester Mayo 49-28.
