Mankato Public Safety Prepares for Black Friday Madness

Posted: Updated:

Mankato Public Safety expects a massive crowd of Black Friday bargain hunters.

Some safety tips for those heading out to get those good deals: park in well–lit areas, put valuables in your trunk, or bring them home. Don't leave them visible in your car.

Public safety will be talking to Mankato Public Works, DOT staff about traffic concerns and the retailers about all security concerns.

Plus retailers will hire additional off duty officers to work those hours.

Mankato Department of Public Safety Cmdr. Matt DuRose says, "We want to make sure that everybody is safe. We certainly encourage the business aspect of it and bringing people to the city, shopping, things like that, but we want to make sure everybody's safe."

Cmdr. DuRose says different from previous years, it appears weather will be cooperating with no freezing temperatures for a change.

Also different this year: earlier hours. Sears opens at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving night and Target opens at 9 p.m. that night.

Best Buy opens at 12:00 a.m. Friday and the entire River Hills Mall opens at 6 a.m. Friday.
