It's a new form of teaching called "flipped classroom." The teacher records a 15–minute lesson online and the students watch it at home. Then in class they work on their homework and have their instructor available to answer questions. Math instructor Dave Kennedy says, "The big thing is I have a lot more positive and in depth interactions with students than I ever had time for in the past."
