The Blue Earth Area high school football team made the state tournament for the fifth time in history this year when the Buccaneers made the 3-A tourney.
B-E-A had never won a title, but today was a great chance as the 12-0 Bucs took on the Eagles of Rochester Lourdes in the Prep Bowl for the 3-A championship.
It would be scoreless nearly to halftime before the Buccaneers strike the first blow with David Franta running 79 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
Lourdes answers with a big play of its own when Griff Slightam runs one up the middle 67 yards for a score, tying it at seven.
15 seconds left in the first half, Blue Earth quarterback Kysten Zierke finds Isaac Darrington for a 6 yard touchdown...Point after would be missed, but the Bucs take a 13-7 lead to the lockers.
3rd quarter would see B-E-A kicker Felix Harseim more than make up for the miss when he drills a 36 yarder to put the Bucs up 16-7.
Blue Earth keeps rolling adding another score from Zierke to Darrington for a 10 yard touchdown, and the Buccaneer fans could feel the championship coming their way.
4th quarter would see the Bucs seal the perfect season with a 2nd rushing touchdown by Franta, this one just a five yard run to put Blue Earth Area up 30-7.
The Bucs would hold on and get their first state championship to bring back and show their fans.
Blue Earth Area wasn't the only champion on Saturday.
Totino Grace took the 5-A title, beating Owatonna 49-21, and Mahnomen defeated Faribault B-A in single-A 20-14.
