MSU Survives Scare From NW Missouri State, Missouri Western Next

Posted: Updated:

The MSU football team is hoping they will have a chance to play for a championship as well, but the division two national title is on the mind of the Mavericks.
MSU would have to win their first game today, something the school had never been able to accomplish at home, when the Mavs hosted the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State.

The Mavericks wasted little time jumping out in front with an interception and touchdown run by Andy Pfeiffer to make it 7-0, and MSU pushes the lead to 14 in the 2nd quarter when Jon Wolf finds a wide open Jeff Burns for the 5 yard pass.
Later in the 2nd, Bryan Keys intercepts Trevor Adams for the 3rd time in the first half...MSU ball.
That would lead to a drive capped by a one yard touchdown run by Wolf over the top of the pile of linemen...21-0 MSU at the break, but Northwest Missouri State was far from out of it.
The Mavs started with the ball in the 2nd half, but Bearcats force a punt and block it and recover deep in MSU territory.
Billy Creason puts Northwest Missouri State on the board with a 9 yard touchdown run to make it a 21-7 game.
Bearcats would score again in the 3rd to make it a seven point game, but in the 4th Wolf rolls out and finds a way to get it to Keyvan Rudd for the 14 yard T-D...28-14 MSU.
Northwest Missouri State would find the endzone one more time and block a 2nd punt leading to this 4 yard score by Jordan Simmons to tie the game at 28 and it would head to overtime.
MSU started with the ball in the first OT and Pfeiffer scores for the 2nd time on the day.
Bearcats turn and Adams finds a wide open Simmons...that guy was playing with a broken arm that he had surgery on just last week...we go to a 2nd O-T.
MSU starts on defense and on 2nd and goal freshman defensive back Justin Otto intercepts Adams in the endzone.
The Mavericks would drive down to set up a 27 yard field goal from Sam Brockshus who hits it and pandemonium erupts as MSU moves on.
