On Thursday, the Brown County Board gave the nod to revamping the way residents recycle electronics and household appliances.
Right now the county only collects electronic recyclables once a year.
Starting January 1st that will change.
The board approved a contract with S.W. Recycling based out of Willmar. Officials say the move allows people to drop off their unused electronics at the Brown County Landfill anytime of the year beginning next month.
A $5 charge per electronic item will be assessed.
"We will greatly improve the convenience for our county residents and we will also lower the price on appliance recycling," said Laine Sletta, Brown County solid waste officer.
The price on recycling appliances will change as well at the landfill.
The fee will drop from $12 to $5 per appliance.
