Rookie Kicker Blair Walsh and Running Back Adrian Peterson both earned NFC Player of the Month honors for December. Walsh, who just yesterday was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, earned the NFC Player of the Month for the first time in his career. Peterson also earned his first Player of the Month honor in his career.
Peterson led the NFL with 135 carries and 861 yards in the month of December. In two games, he surpassed the 200-yard mark. He is the first Viking to receive the Offensive Player of the Month award since Brett Favre in November 2009.
Walsh's honor means that for the first time since 1994, a Vikings kicker has earned the Special Teams Player of the Month award. Walsh connected on 11 of 12 field goals. His field goals included a perfect 5 of 5 on field goals from 50+ yards. His 3 field goals from 50+ at St. Louis on 12/16/12 also set a new single-game NFL record. Walsh tied a team-record 56-yard field goal against the Houston Texans on 12/23/12. The rookie was also named to the Pro Bowl in his first season.
The 10-6 Vikings travel to Lambeau Field to play the Packers Saturday evening. It is the first playoff appearance since the 2009 season for the Vikings.
