The winter season for boys prep athlete of the week starts tonight.
News 12 sports' Erick Lind says Sleepy Eye Saint Mary's senior Sean Mathiowetz isn't your prototypical point guard,
But he is living up to his family name.
He's this week's KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
Growing up in the Mathiowetz household means one thing...you have to be able to play basketball.
Sean is just the latest of the four siblings to excel for Sleepy Eye Saint Mary's on the hardwood.
Last year saw the youngest Mathiowetz join the family thousand point club as a junior.
This year he is leading the Knights with over 25 points per game, but also leading the team in rebounds at over 11 a night...not a typical stat for any team's point guard.
Milliard says Mathiowetz's leadership got the team out to a 6–2 record coming into the week.
Mathiowetz says it is his role as a senior.
Mathiowetz helped lead the Knights to a subsection championship last season, and if he keeps up these numbers, he could get Saint Mary's back there.
That's why he's our KEYC Scheels All–Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
