The Fairmont Cardinals crept back into the state Class 3-A rankings last week checking in at number ten.

Junior guard Mitch Pfingsten is a big reason why the Cards are finding success this year.
He just eclipsed a major milestone and he's our KEYC Scheels All-Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
When Mitch Pfingsten was called up to the Fairmont varsity basketball team as a freshman, it was to use his size and strength to add a scoring threat for the Cardinals.  Now in his junior year with two seasons under his belt as a varsity starter, Pfingsten has improved his overall game.
While Pfingsten's defense has improved, he is still maintaining his double digit point average with 20 a night this year.  The point guard has numerous ways to attack the basket, but he is also concerned about getting the rest of his teammates involved.
Pfingsten hit a milestone two weeks ago when he passed the 1,000 point mark against Waseca.  He is only the fourth player in school history to hit the mark, and only the 2nd to do so in his junior year.
The same game against the Bluejays saw Pfingsten hit the game winning shot at the buzzer, which is fitting, because Coach Thompson says although Pfingsten likes to score, he likes to win even more.
While Pfingsten may not be a captain, he is showing he is still a true leader, and will look to lead the Cardinals through the rest of the season into the playoffs.
That's why he's our KEYC Scheels All Sports Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
