St. Clair Teen Dies After Battle With Cancer

Posted: Updated:
ST. CLAIR, Minn. -

The young man at the heart of St. Clair's Coaches versus Cancer benefit has died.

Neal Lang was diagnosed with cancer two weeks before the start of last basketball season, and the community rallied around young center.
The last couple of weeks have been hard on St. Clair High School, losing junior Hannah Gamble in an early morning car crash last Wednesday, and now Neal Lang, who graduated last spring.
Community members Michelle Thom says, "It's been pretty tough. Lot of kids at school have some pretty tough times. With Hannah being in her accident and now Neal going. Been nice to be in a community this size, everybody coming together."

We brought you Neal's story last year when the St. Clair community brought Coaches vs. Cancer to the game, raising nearly $7,000 and bringing the small community together in the process.

Now they'll have to deal with the loss of this young man, and continue with yet another week of heavy hearts.

Thom says, "They all really look up to him. He was a great role model for the kids. A nice young man, wonderful family."
School officials declined to comment today, understandable with the very recent passing of Neal Lang.

Also tonight was supposed to be another Coaches versus Cancer benefit in their game against Medford. That has been rescheduled to next Thursday.
