Coaches Vs. Cancer in St. Clair Honors Player Lost to Disease

Posted: Updated:

Thursday night's St. Clair vs Medford boys basketball matchup was more than a game.

It doubled as a Coaches vs. Cancer event and a night to honor the Cyclone's own Neal Lang, a star player who lost his year-and-a half-long battle with cancer last Friday.

From now on, a camouflage chair will always have a prominent place at Coaches vs. Cancer events to show Neal is never forgotten.

St. Clair Boys Head Basketball Coach Charlie Freitag says, "It's a privilege and it's an honor to do something like this and see the support that surrounded Neil and Neil's wonderful family in the last 15 months. Thank you for coming out. Let's score a lot of points. Play a little defense, but score a lot of points."

For every point scored in the game by both teams local businesses donate a total of $80. The math after the final score that means $12,400 was raised with the business-match alone Thursday night.

All the money raised with the event goes to local Relays For Life, benefiting the American Cancer Society.
