This weekend's blizzard brought us some rough roads. Minnesota State Patrol reports more than 700 cars slid off the road since Sunday morning. In addition to that 700, there were more than 350 car accidents statewide. Mankato's district did pretty well in comparison with just 25 cars going off the roadway in our 10–county district. But despite the dangerous driving conditions State Patrol saying too many drivers around the state drove drunk, reporting 27 DWI's in the past 24 hours. The good news... of those accidents, Minnesota had no fatalities and 57 personal injuries. Sgt. Jackie Sticha of the MN State Patrol says, this is likely due to more people wearing their seatbelts. Sticha says, "Now we want to go back one step and not go off the road in the first place or slide or lose control of our vehicles."
She says if you must drive when the roads are rough, it's crucial to slow down and give yourself extra space between cars.
