A local teacher advances in a national science lab challenge aimed at finding science teachers who deliver quality teaching with limited resources.
Science teacher at Janesville Waldorf Pemberton High School Eric Kehoe has been named a regional winner in Shell Oil Company's Science Lab Challenge. He submitted a lab that uses digital cameras to find concentrations of color rather than expensive spectrophotometers usually used, which the school only has one of.
Kehoe says, "I think it is good to see that obviously there are these high–tech things we can use to learn science but obviously you can learn a lot concepts using everyday materials too."
As one of 18 regional winners, Kehoe has already won $3,000–worth of new equipment for his lab, and is up for the grand prize of a $20,000 school science lab makeover.
