MSU Men To Host Central Region, Women Head To Topeka

Posted: Updated:

The MSU men's basketball team knew going into this evening that they were a lock to host the Central Region of the division two national tournament.
The Mavericks entered the weekend number one in the region, before winning the NSIC Tournament Title last night.
That only left the question of who the Mavs will face, and it was answered during the selection show viewing party at Taylor Center this evening.

It has been a great bounce back for the MSU men after missing the tournament altogether last season.
The show got underway and the Central Region confirmed that the Mavericks will host and take on Arkansas Tech in the opening round 5 pm on Saturday.
The rest of the region will consist of NSIC opponents Winona State, Augustana, and Upper Iowa as well as Northeastern State, Central Missouri, and Harding.
Head coach Matt Margenthaler says it is good to be back in the driver's seat after enduring such a rough time a year ago.

Before the men's selection show it was the women's turn, and the Mavericks were more on edge for that announcement after Augustana brought an end to a 15 game winning streak last night to win the NSIC tournament and the automatic bid.
MSU was called as they will be the 4th seed in the Central Region tournament taking on Arkansas Tech as well.
The games will be held at Washburn in Topeka Kansas.
First year head coach Emilee Thiesse says the team isn't really surprised about where they ended up, but are excited to keep the season alive.
