The MSU men's basketball team had some difficulties in the first round of the Division Two National Tournament, but in the end the Mavericks beat the Wonder Boys from Arkansas Tech by 15.
That put the top seeded Mavs into the Central Region semifinal this evening against the 5th seed from Harding...the Bison are the only team that pulled a first round upset in the region.
MSU came to play in round two building a 13 point lead by halftime. The Mavericks never let the Bison back in as Assem Marei, Gage Wooten, and Jarvis Williams all finish with 16 points each to lead MSU to the 86-65 win.
The Mavs will take on NSIC rival Winona State in the region championship, as the Warriors defeated Augustana 77-65. Taylor Cameron led the way with 25 points for Winona State. The Mavericks and Warriors split their two meetings in the regular season, each winning on their home court. Tip off for the Central Region Championship is scheduled for 7 pm on Tuesday at Taylor Center.
