MSU Men's Basketball Team One Win Away From Elite Eight

Posted: Updated:

The MSU men's basketball team will play Winona State for the Central region championship Tuesday night at Bresnan Arena in Mankato.
The Mavericks made their way to the title game with an impressive 86-65 win over Harding in Sunday night's Central region semifinal.

The Mavericks held a three point lead midway through the first half, before opening it up to a double digit advantage on three straight trips.
MSU would be up 13 at halftime and go on to win by 21 led by the three headed attack of Jarvis Williams, Gage Wooten, and Assem Marei, each scoring 16 points.
Head coach Matt Margenthaler said after the win that the balance and depth he has on this year's team is the best he's ever had.

The match-up between the Mavericks and Warriors should be a great showdown to determine who will represent the Central Region at the Elite Eight.
MSU beat Winona State at Bresnan Arena back in December by eight, while the Warriors beat the Mavs in Winona by 11 in February.
The Mavericks are ready for all the marbles to ride on the rubber match of the year.
They just know they have to play defense starting with trying to shut down Warriors standout Clayton Vette.
Tip-off for the championship is set for 7 o'clock on Tuesday.  The winner will advance to the Elite Eight in Springfield Massachusetts.
