MSU Men's Hockey Reaches Final Five For First Time In Decade

Posted: Updated:

While the MSU men's basketball team was taking care of business Sunday night at Bresnan Arena, down the road a piece at the Verizon Wireless Center, the MSU men's hockey team was doing the same in a 3-1 victory over Nebraska Omaha to win the best of three series and earn their way into the WCHA's final five.

The Mavericks jumped on the board in the first period with two goals including the game winner from Max Gaede, which happened to be his first of the year.
Omaha would come back to make it a one goal game before Matt Leitner added some insurance in the 3rd period to secure MSU's first trip back to the Final Five in a decade.
Head coach Mike Hastings says the start to the game was key to the team reaching its goal of heading to Saint Paul.

MSU will take on Wisconsin in the quarterfinal at 2:07 pm on Thursday.  The winner will take on Saint Cloud State in the semifinal on Friday.
