SAINT PETER, Minn. -

The City of Saint Peter is suing two of its residents after they failed to pay back a loan.

Officials say Brian and Peggy Grey were doing business as Volk Electric and were loaned $110,000 to establish their business in the city.

City officials say, the Greys have since failed to pay back over $30,500 of those loans. Now the city is suing them in Nicollet County court. The city says taxpayer money is at stake.

"We have an obligation to ensure that we're following the appropriate process to try and get as much of that money back as we can," said Todd Prafke, St. Peter city administrator.

Officials say the city is in settlement talks with the defendants over the outstanding money.
