Blue Angels' air shows hang in the balance

Posted: Updated:

A squadron of Navy jets that performed in Mankato last year took flight in Key West, Florida on Saturday for what may be their last public air show from now until September 30th.

This is just one of the many sacrifices the U.S. Defense Department plans to make due to sequestration budget cuts.

According to Secretary Robert Hale of the Department of Defense (DOD), all aerial demonstrations in civilian air shows from April First through the remainder of the fiscal year have been cut from the DOD's budget.

Navy officials say though Congress has agreed to finance the remaining aerial exhibitions for the rest of the year, it is unclear whether the Angels' shows will continue.
