While basketball fans have been busy watching the D-I tournament on the hardwood, the college hockey fans were patiently waiting to see who made this year's field of 16 teams.
The MSU Mavericks were tied for 9th in the pairwise rankings entering tonight, but they would have to wait and see when the tournament committee unveiled the bracket this evening around 8 o'clock.
A group of players, coaches, and diehard fans got together at the Mankato downtown Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the show.
MSU knew the automatic bid from the WCHA went to the Final Five champions from Wisconsin.
The Badgers bounced the Mavericks from the tournament on Thursday and received the 4th seed in the Northeast regional.
The Mavs have been waiting a decade to make just their 2nd appearance in the D-I Tournament, and they got it when it was announced MSU will be the three seed in the Midwest Regional, taking on Miami of Ohio in the first round.
Head coach Mike Hastings says he is extremely proud of his team and everyone that helped MSU reach this level in his first year on the bench.
The Mavericks will take on Miami at 4 o'clock central time on Saturday in Toledo, Ohio.
