A scam authorities want you to know about: an anonymous caller has been requesting credit card information from Mankato residents. According to Mankato Public Safety, the caller informs residents that their credit cards have been deactivated and a credit card number is needed to reactivate their cards.
Mankato Public Safety's Deputy Director Matt Westermayer says, "Obviously this is concerning since financial institutions don't solicit this type of information from their customers over the phone. And so we wanted to get to get the word out to the public that this is occurring and if they get this call to not provide that information and in most cases it's probably best to hang up."
If you have already given out your information, authorities recommend you contact your card provider and cancel your credit cards.
