What started out as solely a drug investigation leads to several other charges for an Eagle Lake businessman.
In addition to drug charges, 50-year old Scott Michael Schaible is facing felony firearms charges as well as charges of receiving stolen property, insurance fraud, and possession of child pornography.
Schaible is the co-owner of American Barnwood, a business that recycles wood from barns and other buildings.
According to court documents, police first searched his home on Monday for an ongoing narcotics investigation, finding about 5 pounds of marijuana and a digital scale and baggies.
Authorities say they also found 34 firearms, illegal because Schaible had been previously convicted of theft of a firearm.
And , investigators had to obtain two-additional warrants because the search expanded when they found what they suspected was stolen property and child pornography.
Those stolen items were from recent burglaries in the area but included tools that Schaible had recently reported stolen himself and then filed a more than $13,000 insurance claim for.
Schaible was released from jail on $30,000 bail. His next court date has not yet been set.
