M–R–C–I is looking to purchase land from the city of Mankato to build a day training and habilitation site.
The 25–thousand square foot facility would be built on four acres in the Eastwood Energy Center development.
The local non–profit is known for providing job placement for the mentally and physically challenged.
MRCI's VP of programs Linda Leiding says the new center could serve up to 150 clients and better assist clients would extreme behavioral challenges.
"We already offer the services but it gives us an opportunity to be able to make it a real state of the art for people that have autism," she says.
Leiding says this could be a hub for clients that are working in the community and for some a place where they would spend most of their day doing activities and working.
M–R–C–I estimates the total cost of the project to cost around three million dollars.
