Social studies education will get a bit of a facelift, after a new set of standards were approved this week.
The standards will include financial and information literacy, and include the teaching of certain subjects at different grade levels.
Mankato Area Schools Curriculum Director Cindy Amoroso says, "One example would be that in fifth grade, we taught the whole continuum of social studies history. Now that huge amount of content is being divided between fifth grade and seventh grade."
The process to make new social studies standards began 3 years ago. They will be implemented next school year.
