You're used to seeing her on the basketball court ... but N–R–H–E–G junior Carly Wagner is also a STAND–OUT on the track!
News 12 Sports Claire Dau has more on how the FUTURE Golden Gopher is braving the cold ...
...and looking for another state high jump title!
She's our K–E–Y–C Scheels All–Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
"I'm really looking forward to get back on the High jump ... It's my favorite thing to do in track. I'm expecting a really exciting year, it's my junior year so I've still got next year. Just having a good season and staying healthy is what I'm looking forward to."
Though track season has been underway for a while ... Wagner is having difficulty jumping ...
"Hasn't been the greatest season we've had... a lot of cancellations of meets and postponements and a lot of snow and cold weather."
"with very little practice she has a lot of natural skill but she does work hard to in the weight room to prepare herself. She's just got a special gift with jumping."
The defending state high jump champion in class A hasn't jumped in practice as much as she'd like ... but that's not stopping her...
"coming in with very little practice this year she's already jumped 5–4. She's probably jumped a totally of 3 practices and a couple meets outside."
With only a few meets under her belt this year ... the future Golden Gopher has HIGH hopes for the season...
"Get back to the state high jump and hopefully in the 200 as well. And hopefully take the title again."
"She's a really good kid to have on your team. She works really hard. She's an absolute great high jumper."
And that's why she's our K–E–Y–C Scheels All–Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
