The city of Mankato is seeking volunteers for its Volunteer and Police Services program. Participants will drive a re purposed squad car, and wear a specific volunteer uniform while assisting officers with neighborhood patrol. They'll also be able to write out parking citations and help with city events. Deputy Director, Trudy Kunkel says, " It provides the extra eyes and ears for us. It's a cost saving measure to the city. We're able to use these volunteers to enforce those handicap violations that we don't always get a chance to do." The city is accepting applications, which can be found on the city of Mankato's web site. A background check is required and participants must complete 15 hours of training. Each shift will be around 2-4 hours twice a month.
