The End is Near for Blue Earth's Avalon Theater

BLUE EARTH, Minn. -

Blue Earth's historic Avalon Theater will soon be torn down. The building has been around since the 1930s, but the building hasn't been used as a theater for quite a few years, in fact it has been vacant for at least five years.

Over the past two years the city has worked with the owner to donate the building. Blue Earth city administrator Cathy Bailey says the building is beyond repairs and will be torn down in the next week or so.

Bailey says, "Well it is a sadness, sadness to lose a movie theater, we've got another gapping whole along main street. It's sadness for the loss of main street USA."

Blue Earth currently does not have a movie theater. However one group is working with the city to try and get a new theater built for the city.
