The sport involves taking aim at clay targets. Last year the state had just under 60 teams, this year more than 100 are established. Nicollet's team practices every Sunday over at the Nicollet Conservation Club. Kids as young as sixth grade can participate as long as they have been firearm safety certified. Coach Jason Hoffman says, "This is the safest sport. Football you get injuries basketball you get injuries. Trap there's never been an injury yet."
Since the sport started up at the state high school level six years ago, Hoffman says the state has had no reported injuries. This is Nicollet's second year as a team. They compete against seven other schools in their conference.
