A local organization that helps mentally and physically challenged people find work is celebrating a big anniversary.

MRCI Auxiliary is turning 50.

The organization is honoring the big birthday by recognizing its volunteers.

A sculpture from last year's Mankato City Art Walk, called "Set Me Free," was put in place at the Map Drive MRCI building in their honor.

Board Member Mary Hoffman says helping MRCI is a family tradition for her.

"My grandmother, Grace Nike, was a volunteer at the store I suppose 50 years ago or almost, when it was downtown on South Front Street."

The auxiliary group raises money through MRCI's thrift store.
