Two days after a monster tornado tore through the town residents of Moore, OK are returning to their neighborhoods to assess the damage and cleanup.
The tornado, damaged or destroyed about 5,000 homes in Moore. The search for victims was called off today at Plaza Towers Elementary school. It took a direct hit, and seven children were killed there. The two schools that were hit did not have storm shelters. The tornado claimed a total of 24 lives, and injured more than 300 people. Authorities now believe everyone in town is accounted for. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is visiting the area today. The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency says officials are making sure the tornado victims get everything they need for their recovery.
The mayor of Moore is now trying to pass an ordinance requiring storm shelters in new housing projects.
