New Ulm reaches settlement in a case involving a police officer

The City of New Ulm has reached a settlement in regard to a case where two people were killed when a police squad car struck their vehicle.
 
The crash itself happened back in 2011.

According to the Associated Press and The Free Press, the settlement involves the city paying a sum of $570,000 to the family members of those killed.

Myra Meyer and her son Brian Wichman died as a result of the collision. Officer Matthew Rasmussen of the New Ulm Police Department crashed into their car while attempting to chase a speeding suspect.

Rasmussen was traveling at least 70 miles per hour, and did not have the emergency lights or siren activated on his squad car at the time
