NICOLLET COUNTY, Minn. -
A proposal that would have put an extra $260,000 per year into the coffers of Nicollet County was shot down by commissioners.
The county administrator says a Wheelage Tax plan was voted down 3-2.
Under the proposal, a $10 license tab fee would have been tacked on. Certain vehicles would have been exempt under the measure, such as motorcycles.
Officials say the extra cash would have been used for road repair.
The county administrator says a wheelage tax will not be implemented for 2014, but the board could revisit the issue down the road and implement the tax for a later year.
Right now the county administrator says one option is to make up the difference with an increase in property taxes.
