Authorities encourage Mankato residents to participate in 'Night to Unite'

MANKATO, Minn. -

The City of Mankato is asking residents to register their neighborhoods for an event called 'Night to Unite.'
The Department of Public Safety says the initiative is along the same lines as National Night Out, but has one key difference.

Night to Unite is the city's version of the event, and is held later to allow the college students a chance to participate once they return to Mankato.

Authorities say the goal behind the event is to get community members involved, and enhance public safety.
"What we've seen is that when neighbors are familiar with each other and know who should be around in the neighborhood, they also will report suspicious vehicles, suspicious people, and it's you helping us solve crimes," said Cmdr. Dan Schisel of the Mankato Department of Public Safety.
Neighborhood registrations will be accepted through this Friday. And if you register on-time, a police squad car and/or fire truck will show up at your event.

Registrations can be completed via the city's website at:
