The second phase of the two-year project of the county road 41 interchange and the 4-lane portion of Highway 14 that expands a mile and a half west is on track to be completed by September 30.
Todd Kjolstad with MnDOT says, "This portion of Highway 14 was intended to be funded to be moving towards Nicollet. It does take time and money to develop and design and gets bids things like that... it's a normal process at this point."
The heat affected the ability to pour concrete but this morning crews were working hard on completing the task now that the temperature has dropped.
This will provide another access to Highway 14.
North Mankato City Planner Mike Fischer says, "That will allow us to expand our access and allows us to have a safe access to our industrial park."
Kjolstad says, "There's a lot of truck traffic and they are hoping to get some industrial type development and this would allow trucks and vehicles to get on highway 14 without impacting more residential areas in upper North Mankato."
The 4-lane portion of highway 14 to Nicollet could take another couple more years until it's completed.
