Across the river in the Key City, if you're a Mankato resident you very well may have noticed a lot of smoke along Madison Avenue this afternoon. But no worries, it was all planned.
Today a team of more than 25 firefighters from around the area were training on a controlled burn. The house they set ablaze has to meet strict criteria in order for the training to take place.
Operations Commander, Don Lehne says, "We light each room one at a time and the firefighters go in and put the fire out so it give us a very real life experience under controlled conditions."
Authorities considered canceling the training because of the extreme heat and humidity. However, an E-M-S crew was there to make sure everyone was staying hydrated. The staff took numerous breaks so they wouldn't get overheated.
