A Saint James man has been charged with three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct.
58-year–old Juan Arturo Fernandez–Perez is accused of raping a 36-year-old woman in his apartment.
The alleged incident happened almost two weeks ago, but the victim reported it to St. James law enforcement just last Monday.
According to the police report: The incident occurred on August 30th at this apartment complex in St. James when a 36-year-old woman went to help clean this man's apartment.
Authorities say Juan Arturo Fernandez–Perez shut and locked his apartment door as soon as the victim was inside. Grabbed her by the hair and forcefully bounced her off walls and apartment furniture.
The criminal complaint goes on to say he led her into his bedroom at knife point, where he then raped her.
St. James Police say the victim waited 10 days before coming forward. They say she had suffered multiple bruises across her body and sore muscles.
According to online court records, Fernandez–Perez is currently being held at the Watonwan County Jail under a $50,000 bond with his next court appearance set for September 17.
KEYC News 12 also spoke with St. James Police Chief Mark Carvatt, who wasn't able to do an on-camera interview, but he said there are multiple reasons why alleged sexual assault victims do not call police right away.
Police are looking into this victim's reasoning as well.
The incident is still under investigation.
