After the unusual spring we had this planting season and other weather that has been tough on crops this summer, we thought we'd give you an update on this year's pumpkin crop.
Producing pumpkins near Eagle Lake for 13 years now, George Denn, owner of the business "Hey By George" says this year's pumpkin and squash turnout surprised him after this growing season's tough weather.
George Denn says, "Like these large ones were planted on the 22nd of May. It was really cold this spring and I only had a 20% emergence on the large ones. I thought well, I'm just going to see how well they do, and actually, they produced really good."
Denn says an average pumpkin crop can be anywhere from 600 to 1,000 pumpkins an acre. Denn has over 60 acres.
