The bridge that holds Highways 14 and 15 over the Minnesota River in New Ulm closed early today.
It will be shut down for approximately two weeks for railing work.
Traffic will be detoured to the Nicollet County Road 37 and 20th Street bridge crossing.
The bridge crew from the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be strengthening the rail by filling in selected gaps with reinforced concrete.
This additional support will provide an added measure of safety until the bridge is replaced in 2018.
