The Roundabout project on Highway 22 in Mankato may be delayed, possibly pushing the construction project back until 2015 after county commissioners unanimously proposed the delay to MnDOT.
When the Wow Zone first opened almost 6 years ago, the owners never thought they'd have to worry about customers getting to their business, until now.
Wow Zone owner, Pamela Demarce says, "We need them to be able to get here. With easy access. And, so this roundabout issue is definitely critical to our business."
Mankato Adams Street Investment Incorporated owns the Holiday Inn Express & Suites right across the road. Their concern: customer access.
MSII Controller, Shirley Baker says, "Our only issue is making sure that those businesses in the north east quadrant off of 22 there have appropriate access during the roundabout construction."
Demarce says, "At the beginning they talked about getting it done. Just closing it off getting it done and we, from the very beginning indicated that that's not our first choice."
Blue Earth County commissioners have asked MnDOT to delay the project a year.
With all the ducks in a row for construction to start in 2014, MnDOT is looking into possibly delaying the project.
Rebecca Arndt of MnDOT Public Affairs says, "At this point, it's an 'if' still and it's an 'if' that we're investigating."
Putting MNDOT engineers back to the drawing board to create new traffic route options.
Arndt says, "It's going to be very hard to appease all the various businesses."
Options we'll learn about in a few weeks.
Arndt says, "Everything needs to shake out soon here for us to move forward with a 2014 construction. Within the next couple of weeks we'll have an idea of what we're doing."
An informational meeting with area business owners will be held October 3rd at Snell Motor's conference room.
