New details are emerging about the woman who tried to breach security at the White House yesterday. Family members say her mental state may have played a role.
CBS News has learned, before crashing her car into a White House barrier yesterday , 34 year old Miriam Carey made delusional statements to police that President Obama was listening to her, and communicating with her.
Police in Stamford, Connecticut tell CBS This Morning Senior Correspondent John Miller - sometime after she was fired from her job as a dental hygienist, officers questioned Carey when people close to her became concerned about her mental state.
Miller said, "So they're going back over those reports to see if any of that can enlighten them to into what was her mental state, and when did it start to become an issue."
Capitol Police and Secret Service agents shot Carey multiple times and killed her during a wild chase from the white house to the capitol .. that was partially caught on camera. Carey was not armed. Officers are being questioned about the use of deadly force.
Capitol Police - who are working without pay because of the government shutdown - say Carey used her car as a weapon. Officers say they opened fire because they saw her as a threat.
Sources tell CBS News Carey had fallen and hit her head last year, and afterwards, her behavior changed. Relatives and friends suggest she was battling depression.
