Nearly 300 people braved the cold and rain for the sixth annual Autism walk held at Mankato's Sibley Park.
The event, sponsored by the Southern Minnesota Autism Coalition raises awareness on the condition, which affects approximately one in 88 births.
Karen Wright says, "Be aware that there are people out there. So sometimes when you see a parent with a screaming kid at the grocery store, don't always think bad parent. It could be some social issues and just know that there are– that it is a social disability and be aware of what it's about and to understand it."
The money raised from this year's walk goes toward speakers, grant programs and resources for families of children with autism.
