There's only six days left until the deadline for registering for the fourth annual Mankato Marathon.

Organizers say they are hoping to reach a milestone 5,000 participants and are well on their way.

Anna Thill of Visit Mankato says they have already surpassed 3,000 registrants before Sunday's deadline, which is a few hundred more than they had at this time last year.

And besides being a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, Thill says the unique course makes it attractive to runners.

Anna Thill says, "It's a beautiful course and we take people from out in the country around the trail system to the City Center. It really is a nice course and it's not too hard, it's not too easy. It's a bold race."

Thill says she anticipates that the marathon will bring in roughly 8,000 to 10,000 people to Mankato.

The marathon is held October 19 and 20th.
