An accident between a school bus and a pickup truck in Martin County has left one person dead and two others injured.
Authorities say they received the call around 11:00 Friday morning. The incident took place along a gravel road just southwest of the City of Sherburn.
While the investigation is ongoing, the images of the wreckage are eye opening to say the least. The Minnesota State Patrol says on Friday morning, a school bus and a pickup truck pulling a trailer collided. Authorities say the crash killed the driver of the truck.
"It's tragic whenever somebody loses a life...but there's only 2 occupants in the school bus," said Lt. Bill Kruger of the Minnesota State Patrol. "And like I say, at this point, we don't believe that there are life-threatening injuries....on the school bus."
The superintendent of the Martin County West school district confirmed to KEYC News 12 the passenger on the bus was a student.
Right now authorities are trying to piece together what happened and why.
"...our accident reconstructionist just showed up on scene, so he'll look at the scene and come up with a determination of the direction of travel of the two vehicles prior to impact," said Kruger.
Because this incident involved a school bus, authorities say The Minnesota State Patrol is the lead-investigating agency. We will provide more details on this incident when they become available.
