Alleged Child Abuse Claims Life of Adrian Peterson's Son

Posted: Updated:

The son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has died of injuries suffered in an alleged child abuse case in South Dakota. The boy was reportedly taken off life support Friday afternoon.
Authorities adding the child had been in critical condition since Wednesday when he was rushed to the hospital unresponsive.

So far battery charges have been filed against a man in South Dakota. Joseph Patterson, the boyfriend of the child's mother, was home alone with the child when the alleged beating took place.

It's now being reported the 27-year-old man charged in the case may have used a three foot iron rod to hit the boy in the head.

In front of TV cameras after practice Friday hours before news broke the 2-year-old had died, A.P. did not confirm nor deny reports his son was in critical condition in Sioux Falls.
But said this is a private matter and asked people to respect his privacy.
Peterson says, "Just stand right up. One thing I always bounce back to is the good Lord never give you more than you can bear, than you can handle, so I'm built tough."
The Sioux Falls police department has not released the name of the child out of respect for the family.

Joseph Patterson, accused in this crime, was convicted of domestic assault just last year against a woman and her 3-year-old child.

Adrian Peterson on twitter Friday evening saying in three messages quote:
"God Bless everyone and thank u so much. The NFL is a fraternity of brothers and I am thankful for the tweets, phone calls and text messages from my fellow players.
Thank you to my family, my fans and fans of other teams for their support."
