After twelve years without sidewalks leading to Windom's Middle and High school building, the cement has finally been poured.
Concerned parents took the initiative to get their children to and from school safely, launching the Safe Routes to School Committee.
In 2011 the school received a grant to get the project underway.
Safe Route to School chairperson, Shannon LaCanne says, "We were notified in August of 2011 that we got the grant. It took a couple years to get going with all the paperwork and logistics but it started on Monday and it's almost done today."
A grant of two hundred and fifty three thousand dollars was given by MnDOT, to pave a safe way to school for students.
