Greater Mankato Growth sponsored a manufacturing tour of businesses throughout the area to highlight the impact of the industry in South Central Minnesota.
Nearly one out of five jobs in South Central Minnesota come from manufacturing according to Greater Mankato Growth.
Today, many of those businesses opened their doors for the public to see just what they do.
John Roice bought Lindsay Windows, located in North Mankato in 1989.
He wanted to take part in the manufacturing tour so the public could learn more about what his employees do.
Roice says, "We're proud of our employees and the products we make. And we wanted to show off our employees and the windows we make. We just want the community to see. A lot of people say, 'what do we do up here', you know it says Lindsay Windows and door, we didn't know you manufacture, you don't just sell them."
Lindsay Windows in North Mankato employs more than 100 people and they customize windows from start to finish.
Roice says, 'We get a great work force and ethics and a great place to raise a family."
And those that went on the tour were left impressed with what they saw.
George Fasnacht says, "Much greater appreciation. Not only that, but I was impressed with the quality that they put into their windows."
And it's businesses like Lindsay that have made the greater Mankato area flourish.
